Buttons & Bows

Today's look has a few componets: it helps us dress down a dressy dress while combining a few current trends: tomato red, denim, pops of color and arm parties.
Recognize this dress? It's the Kate Spade Jillian dress I wore for my MBA graduation, but today it's getting a casual make over! Here's how I took it from dress to day...
With the Jillian dress, a little bit of layering can go a long way! I paired a button up shirt under the dress  to dress it down a bit!
Arm partys are all the rage right now! So as always I piled on the arm candy with lots of bracelets, bangles and bling!
A pop of color is always a great way to make a statement for spring! For this outfit I choose a turquoise necklace and turquoise gum drop studs for that perfect pop!
Denim is also really big right now from colored skinnies to chambray tops. For this look, layering a denim button up under the jillian helped dress it down!
Tomato red was all over the spring runway from prints and patterns to bold solids! It is a super easy trend to try, play it safe by pairing it navy, denim or brown, or be bold by pairing it with turquoise (like me) or even yellow!
I finished the look by neutralizing it with gold.

  2. Courtney, I love the look but it would be too hot for Houston right now. I will file it away until fall. I have tried layering under a Jillian before but the scoop back kind of bugged me with a shirt under it. The shirt kept poofing out. What is your secret? Maybe mine was too big to layer. I will try it again soon and post it on my blog... maybe today!

    1. Thanks Sandee! If you are having bunching problems try a think chambray shirt (mines a thick denim one and it was kind of challenging for me). Since I was a dancer back in the day I live in bootie shorts (like spandex work out shorts) I always wear them underneath all my skirts and dresses. As weird as it sounds, I have a high waisted pair (I think they are volleyball shorts?) but when I layer, I tuck the undershirt into the shorts to keep it in place! If shorts aren't your thing, try a ballet belt, it looks like a work out headband but it fits your waist! You can wear that over the shirt but under the dress to keep it flat on the back and prevent the bunching! I hope this help!
