Costume Craze

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, and it's quickly approaching! But I am so over bland off the rack costumes, they're uncomfortable, over-priced and unoriginal! So I like to create fashionable diy costumes made from wearable pieces you may already have in your closet! Today's post features a fierce female feline hero and a elegantly evil super villain.
My Halloween fixation started earlier then I anticipated this year when I received my first costume request: Poison Ivy. I was Poison Ivy in high school one year, I paired an emerald velvet leotard and matching skirt from a dance costume with red fishnets and red pumps. I finished the look with red lipstick and pining fake foliage to my dress.
So incase you feel like going green this halloween, here are five ways to get the look! I suggest adding fake foliage or even some real leafs to your outfit, by pinning a few in your hair, wearing some as a broach or attaching a few sporadically on your outfit.

So Long Sweet Summer

I'm obsessed with these necessary clothing shorts (last seen here), they were the perfect throw-on piece for summer, so easy and chic! I'm actually kind of sad to retire them for fall, but I'll pull them out next summer!

Shop this look and similar styles:
top: francescas // shorts: necessary clothing // sunnies: karen walker // shoes: sam edleman (red) // necklace: marc by marc jacobs // bag: francescas // rings: wire wrap // vintage

Can you believe summer is almost over?
I will be sad to see it go, but I must admit that I am excited for fall in the city! Growing up in Arizona, I never really had seasons, and San Francisco (where I lived last year) is pretty seasonless as well, so I am excited to welcome the change! My style got simplified this summer, so I am also anxious to see how it evolves with my first nyc fall! I'm also more than ready to indulge in a pumpkin spice steamer (i don't drink coffee, so this is the alternative version... tastes the same without the kick!), I know it's already here but I'm not ready to invest in one until the weather starts to change! Anyways, what are you looking forward to most this fall?
Oh and Before you go,
check out some of my simple summer favorites...

White Stripes

Summer has pretty much come and gone, so I had to squeeze in a few more summer styles before the seasons change!
I made a love connection this summer: My white skort from zara! I'll be sad to put it away for awhile , but will definitely pull it out next spring! It might even make a winter white appearance with tights and booties... stay tuned!
I love love LOVE to layer, but on a hot and sticky NYC summer day, lathering up in layers was the last think I wanted to do! This outfit provided a simple solution: I layered with a short sleeve top to help beat the heat! So I was still able to get the layering look without sweating to death.
If you're short like me (I'm 5 foot nothing!) an all white look can sometimes shrink you, and no one wants that! So if you are choosing to do white on white, make sure you 1) define your waist at it's smallest and highest point (like I did with my knotted top), this will make you look longer and 2) Go with a nude shoe, they always help elongate! Even a strappy sandal (like mine) that might usually chop you up and make you look shorter, can help lengthen legs when it's the right nude!

Polka Dot Picnic

This weekend, I spent my sunday picnicking at the park with polka dots and my pup!

The weather has been beautiful lately! We're smack in the middler of summer and fall, it's cooled down quite of bit, making the temperature just right! So Paris and I decided to take Waffles on a little polka dot picnic at Washington Square Park.

denim days

I hope summer never ends, so I never have to take off this hat!

So labor day has come and gone... but I'm still wearing white bottoms! Hey, rules are meant to be broken, right? right!

wwzdw

Today I'm entering a blogger contest hosted by one of my favorite sites
wwzdw: what would Zooey Deschanel wear.

So today's look is inspired by the new girl herself, Zooey Deschanel. I've adapted her "adorkable" style by pairing a retro-inspired modcloth dress in a novelty print with a bright party-cardie and four eyes.

sky high

there's a place way, way up high... a pretty little park in the sky!

today's post will be featuring some fun photos taken along the nyc high-line: a park built upon an abandoned railroad in my neighborhood!

white out

in honor of labor day, i'm stepping out in head to toe bright white!
so the rule is, no white pants or shoes after labor day, but i don't necessarily believe in or follow that rule for a few reasons 1) i grew up in Arizona, where "summer" lasts until November, so I saw nothing wrong with rocking a white until the temp dropped to double digits. 2) i love all white for winter!
